Archanes – A Timeless Cretan Gem
The oldest mountain village on Crete is just 20 minutes from Heraklion, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. As the island’s largest wine-growing region, Archanes invites guests to enjoy its cafés, tavernas, and restaurants while serving as the perfect base to explore Crete’s historic sites—far from the bustling coastal resorts.
Traditions & Customs
Archanes is renowned not only for its scenic vineyards but also for its exceptional local wines. Guests can witness or even participate in the grape harvest in August and September, experiencing the wine-making process firsthand. From late October to early January, the traditional grape distillation (Rakokazana) produces the famous Cretan raki. Wine tasting tours are also available, showcasing the region’s rich viticultural heritage.
Crete is world-famous for its exquisite olive oil. From November onwards, guests can visit the lovingly restored olive oil mill and discover the traditional methods of extracting oil from this precious fruit.

The complex comprises four stylish villas, divided into ten lovingly designed apartments, each named after a Greek astrological symbol. Built in the traditional “Venetian-Archanes” style, the villas offer breathtaking views of Archanes, historic Mount Giouchtas, and the expansive blue waters of the Gulf of Heraklion.
Each villa combines traditional charm with modern comfort, featuring tastefully decorated interiors, a cozy atmosphere, and all the amenities needed for a relaxing stay. The estate also includes a restaurant with spectacular views of the village and surrounding nature, where a traditional breakfast can be served upon request.
A highlight of Eliathos is the spacious 60 m² swimming pool, set within the lush gardens, offering guests the perfect spot to soak up the sun, unwind, and admire the stunning Archanes landscape.

All apartments are fully equipped for a comfortable stay: complimentary Wi-Fi and ADSL internet, individually controlled air conditioning and central heating, modern furnishings, and a cozy living area with a fireplace, sofa, and dining space. Families are welcomed with a baby cot and high chair. Pool and beach towels, as well as a private terrace or veranda, ensure relaxing outdoor moments. The Deluxe Lofts, spanning 57 m², offer stylish comfort and a cozy atmosphere. The lower level includes a living and dining area with a sofa bed and an open staircase leading to the upper bedroom with a double bed. The fully equipped kitchenette provides a refrigerator, freezer, oven, and coffee maker for flexible self-catering, while the modern bathroom with shower and hairdryer ensures convenience.

Museums & Archaeological Sites in and around Archanes
Archanes is rich in cultural highlights. The Archaeological Museum displays finds from Fourni, including the Royal Tombs, Vathipetro, Tourkogeitonia, and the Minoan sanctuary on Mount Giouchtas. Other notable sites include the Folklore Museum, the First and Second World War Museum, and the Museum of Cretan History and Tradition.
A particularly recommended visit is the Minoan Palace of Archanes in Tourkogeitonia, discovered in 1964. Comparable in size to the Palace of Knossos, it was apparently closely linked to it. Also of interest is the Morosini Aqueduct, nestled within the Agia Eirini Gorge.
The famous Palace of Knossos, just 10 km from Manili Boutique Suites & Villas, was an important center in antiquity, inhabited from the Neolithic period until the 5th century AD. Knossos is steeped in myths, including the Labyrinth of the Minotaur and the story of Daedalus and Icarus.
In Heraklion, visitors can explore the large Archaeological Museum, the Historical Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Morosini Fountain at Lions Square, built in 1628. The city also features the Cathedral of St. Minas and the Exhibition Center of St. Catherine of Sinai, showcasing unique icons, books, and works of art.
