1. First Stop – My Sightseeing Recommendations in Nafplion:
Around Nafplion, there is so much for me to discover. I like to start with the Palamidi Fortress – the climb is worth it for the stunning views over the city and the coast. I also especially enjoy the Bourtzi Fortress in the middle of the harbor, which I love to visit at sunset.
A stroll through the old town is a must for me: winding streets, colorful houses, and cozy cafés invite me to linger. For a little beach break, I head to Arvanitia Beach, quiet and right on the city’s edge.
For those interested in history, I recommend trips to Epidaurus, Mycenae, or Mistras – the ancient theater, the Lion Gate, and the Byzantine ruins of Mistras are simply impressive. And when I have time, I enjoy a wine tasting at one of the local vineyards, with views over the hills and the sea – for me, the perfect mix of culture, nature, and enjoyment.
2. Second Stop – My Sightseeing Recommendations in Gythion:
Around Gythion, I feel the true Peloponnese spirit: from the picturesque harbor to the rustic villages of the Mani Peninsula, and the spectacular views in the Taygetos Mountains, where sky and sea seem to meet. I enjoy the calm at Mavrovouni Beach, am enchanted by the mysterious Diros Caves, and lose myself in the medieval magic of Monemvasia – here, history merges with unforgettable landscapes. Next stop: Monemvasia.
3. Sightseeing Recommendations in Monemvasia
In Monemvasia, I love wandering through the narrow streets of the medieval fortress town, discovering historic stone houses, and enjoying the spectacular views from the fortress. I adore the small Byzantine churches, the Archaeological Museum, and the relaxing moments in cafés with fresh fish and local specialties. Walks along the coast and to hidden coves also add to the unique magic of this place for me.
4. Stop – Sightseeing from/to Itilo
In Itilo, I enjoy strolling through the charming village with its traditional Mani stone houses. I am particularly impressed by the old stone bridge and the Byzantine Church of Agios Spyridon, which dominate the historic center. From here, I like to take trips to the Palace of Nestor, which immerses me in Mycenaean history, and to the Costa Navarino Nature Reserve, where I admire the untouched nature and coastline on walks. For me, Itilo is the perfect base to combine history, nature, and the relaxed life of the Mani Peninsula.
