Cooking classes at Metochi Farmhouse near
Kissamos are among the most authentic culinary experiences on Crete. In a lovingly restored farmhouse over 100 years old, guests don’t just discover Cretan cuisine – they immerse themselves in the island’s way of life.
Cooking like in a Cretan family
Guided by the hosts – usually Eleni and her mother – participants prepare traditional Cretan dishes together. Only fresh, seasonal ingredients from the estate are used: vegetables from the garden, herbs, olive oil, cheese, meat, and homemade wine.
Typical dishes on the menu include:
* Dakos (Cretan bread salad)
* Kalitsounia (small cheese or herb pies)
* Gemista or Boureki (stuffed vegetables or baked dishes)
* Tzatziki and other traditional starters
From garden to table
A special part of the experience is a guided tour of the property. Guests discover:
* Vegetable and herb gardens
* Olive groves and vineyards
* Chickens, sheep, and traditional farming life
Along the way, you’ll learn why the Cretan diet is considered one of the healthiest in the world.
Traditional craftsmanship & enjoyment
In addition to cooking, participants often also learn:
* Traditional bread baking
* Tasting of olive oil and local wines
* Preparation of simple, authentic dishes
Shared meal in a unique atmosphere
After cooking, everyone enjoys the meal together in the garden or on the terrace – accompanied by wine, raki, and a warm, family-style atmosphere. The dishes you’ve prepared yourself become the highlight of a truly enjoyable evening.
More than just a cooking class
The classes are intentionally kept small (usually up to around 15 participants) and last about 4–5 hours. They are suitable for everyone – including families and beginners – and can be adapted to specific dietary needs upon request.
Comment:
The cooking class at Metochi Farmhouse is much more than an excursion: it’s a genuine immersion into the soul of Crete – shaped by hospitality, nature, tradition, and honest flavors.
