Archanes, the region is the largest wine-growing region in Crete. There are also 2 wineries within walking distance. The place has been known since the 13th century for the very aromatic and naturally sweet Dafnes red wine made from the Liatiko vine. The village square is lined with large eucalyptus trees and surrounded by cafes and taverns. The famous wine festival takes place in the town on the first ten days of July. On the north side of the square is the small church of Agia Zoni
