BERG JUKTAS
Juktas is the name of the sacred Minoan mountain, whose shape is reminiscent of Zeus. It is located just 2 km west of Archanes, in a unique landscape, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, full of myths and secrets. According to legend, the tomb of Zeus was located there. In fact, the name Juktas is a variation of the Latin Jupiter, meaning “Zeus.” It was a sacred mountain for the Minoans with at least two places of worship, one at the highest point of the mountain (Psili Koryfi) and the second at Anemospilia.

FOURNI
Archanes is close to many hidden treasures. Aqueduct in Spilia
The largest water bridge built in Crete to solve the water shortage problem of Megalo Kastro (now Heraklion) is located in the green countryside of Agia Irini in Spilia, just 1 km from the Palace of Knossos. Built during the Egyptian occupation (1830-1840), the aqueduct transported water from the Fountana spring in Kounavos and from the Miliara spring in skalani through the famous Morosini fountain to the center of Heraklion. The reason for this construction was the discovery by the Egyptians of the ancient Roman aqueduct of Knossos with a 1,150 meter long underground tunnel that was cleaned, opened and restored. The arcade is still preserved today; However, its western exit is closed, while the eastern one on the skalani side is still in very good condition
