The city of Nafplion or Nauplia and Tolo (district of Agolis-Peloponnese), Nafplion (Nauplia) was the capital of Greece in 1831/1833. 1822-1828 war Nafplion (Nauplia) was the basis of the Greek freedom fighters. Nafplion (Nauplia) is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece today. The German King Otto was relocated to Athens. Due to its multicultural past, Nafplion (Nauplia) has a beautiful historical city center with house facades from the Venetian, Franconian, Turkish and Hellenic times. Most of the house facades have been extensively renovated. The historic city center is now closed to traffic. Here you can stroll through the alleys and enjoy the coffee house atmosphere under balconies full of flowers. From the harbor promenade, the offshore island "Bourtzi" with its fortress "Palamidi" is a romantic setting at sunset.

Since nothing was destroyed in the city during the occupations of the Venetians, Franks and Turks, you can follow the development of the new Greek state through the house facades. The military museum, which is housed in the building where the first cadet school in Greece was founded, is evidence of the more recent Greek past.

Traditional folk costumes from the various Greek regions are exhibited in the Folklore Museum. In the Archaeological Museum of Nafplion (Nauplia) you can admire finds from Mycenae, Triyns and Asine. The seaside village Tolon is for the habitants of Nafplion the most popular paradise for bathing, this small seaside village is only kilometer (4 Km) north of Nafplion (Nauplia). The former fishing village of Tolo with his sandy beach has developed into a modern international paradise for bathing. From here ferries go to the small island "Romvi". You should also visit the ancient city of Asini (early Helladic period 3000 BC), which Homer already admired. They are located on the edge of the Tolon Bay on a densely vegetated ridge.
