Beaches around Plakias Village
The region around Plakias on the south coast of Crete is a paradise for beach lovers. Within a few minutes' drive, you'll find numerous coves and beaches that could hardly be more diverse. From expansive sandy beaches to small, hidden bays, there's something for every type of vacation.
Damnoni Bay – approx. 3 km east of Plakias
The wide, sandy Damnoni Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the region. It can be reached in just a few minutes by car or on foot. Tavernas, umbrellas, and water sports make Damnoni an ideal beach for families and active vacationers. The clear water is perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
Souda Bay – approx. 4 km west of Plakias
Slightly further west lies the sheltered Souda Bay. The beach is smaller and quieter, with tavernas and trees providing natural shade. Souda is especially popular with guests seeking a relaxed atmosphere.
Ammoudi Beach – approximately 4 km east of Plakias
In the immediate vicinity of Damnoni lie the bays of Ammoudi and Ammoudaki. Here, visitors can expect turquoise, crystal-clear waters – perfect for snorkeling. Ammoudaki is also known as a nudist beach. These bays are somewhat more secluded and therefore appear particularly idyllic.
Korakas Beach (Korakos) – approximately 12 km west of Plakias
Near the small village of Rodakino lies Korakas Beach, a long sandy and pebble beach with a family atmosphere. Waterfront tavernas offer fresh fish and Cretan specialties. The beach is never crowded and is ideal for guests seeking peace and quiet without sacrificing comfort.
Rodakino Beaches – approx. 12–14 km west of Plakias
In addition to the well-known Korakas Beach, Rodakino boasts several smaller bathing bays, some of which are still very pristine. The water here is particularly clear, and the beaches are less touristy – ideal for independent travelers.
