Litsis Beach

Litsis Beach – the quiet treasure in southern Crete
Those willing to embark on a longer journey off the beaten track will be rewarded with a place/beach that will stay with them forever: Litsis Beach, in southern Crete, is not a beach for a quick detour – but a true destination for explorers and independent travelers.

The journey is the destination
The approach from the north – e.g., from Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, or Elounda – leads through the wild interior of the island, past gorges, plateaus, and isolated mountain villages. The roads are well-maintained, but winding and narrow in places. Those traveling here should take their time – not only because of the route, but also because the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. Our tip: Don't plan to take the night for your first drive – the route is much more pleasant and safer in daylight.

The Beach: Natural, Quiet, and Almost Deserted
Litsis Beach lies west of the small village of Keratokampos and is rarely visited even in high season. This secluded, unspoiled stretch of coast offers fine pebbles, clear water, and an almost meditative tranquility. No sun loungers, no loud music—just the sound of the sea, the view of the barren, beautiful southern coast, and perhaps a few other individualists who have also found their way there.

Access is via the coastal road—a bit of direction doesn't hurt. There is also a sign pointing to the beach. Parking is available on the coastal road. Those who come here aren't looking for comfort, but rather the feeling of truly being "away." The descent to the beach is over gravel and stones, so be careful and wear sneakers.

Culinary Endings in the Surrounding Area
After a day of swimming at Litsis Beach, rustic tavernas in the area around Keratokampos and the neighboring village of Kastri invite you to stop for a bite to eat. Many of them are family-run, serving freshly caught fish, homemade mezedes and local wine – with views of the Libyan Sea and warm, unpretentious hospitality.
