Trips and Tours from the South-Coast Village Paleochora
Tours from / to Paleochora Kreta.com tours & trips suggestions for our customers:
Rugged mountains and hidden bays characterize the image of the rural area of Paleochora. The small place is on a headland on the east side is the pebble beach and on the westside the sandy beach. Our tour suggestions for you:
+ With the ferry from Paleochora for swimming and snorkelling to the nature reserve Lagoon Elafonissi. The ferry from Paleochora runs several times a day.

+With the ferry from Paleochora to the south coast town Sougia and hiking through Agia Irini Gorge. The Agia Irini Gorge is one of the most imposing gorges ( the European Path E 4)in Crete and my personal favourite gorge, a paradise in springtime, many wild bulb flowers, and wild herbs bloom. The Agia Irini Gorge is less known than Samaria but at least as beautiful offering more concerning fauna & flora. However, the gorge does not have as many narrow passes as Samaria. Preferably hike through both gorges! There are things in life that you just must go through!

+ With the ferry to the car-free village of Loutro for swimming, snorkelling, or hiking. What can you expect there: a pebble bay with crystal clear water and a few traditional taverns. Typical of this bay is the mountain range that slopes sharply into the sea. A very impressive landscape. The ferries run several times a day from Paleochora.

+ Visit the vibrant old town of Chania. The city of Chania is in the west of Crete and with its Venetian port it is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. Chania has about 60,000 inhabitants. A city with a wealth of history, attractions, and a beautiful harbour promenade with an architecture of the different occupiers from the Orient and Occident.

+ The Samaria Gorge the Lazy Tour, when you are not able or you don’t want to walk the Samaria Gorge completely for health reasons, you can take the ferry from Paleochora to go to the exit of the gorge to the car free village "Agia Roumeli". From there the famous narrowest part of the gorge is easily accessible. On this seaway you will admire the mountains sloping steeply into the sea, you will be rewarded with stunning views. The Samaria Gorge is the longest and narrowest gorge in Europe. The oldest national park in Crete is a real natural wonder

The south of Crete is not so well developed by public transport. If you want to explore Crete, a rental car on the south coast is a MUST or you use the ferries, as it is common on the south coast. Especially hikers use this means of transport. However, it does not pay off if you use the ferry too often, it gets expensive. A rental car is worth, just because of the airport transfer. Because the transfer from the airport to Paleochora "one way from Chania airport"is the same price as 1-week rental car (cat. A small one).
