Kardamili is an attraction for many hikers who want to hike through the "Viros Gorge" (20 km long!), But also for speleologists (the "Diros Cave" and the "Cave of Aeopoli"). The Taygetus Mountains are a varied hiking area. Hiking maps are available at: www.anavasi.gr.

Set against splendid scenery, a perfect places for relaxing breaks where you can watch leisure boats sail by at a gentle pace. There are beautiful picturesque bathing bays in and around Kardamili. Pine and cypress groves grow to the sea. In Kardamili you will also find a dentist, a bank, a bike rental, 3 supermarkets and several cafes and taverns. Kardamili became famous because of the British writer "Patrick Leigh Fermor", who wrote about the life of the Manioks. The Manioks were an impregnable people, if only because of the inaccessibility of this area through the "Taygetus Mountains".

Because of the inaccessibility, this area was particularly popular with pirates. Christianity only established in the 8th century AD. There are countless churches with beautiful mosaics. One of them can be seen in the old village of Kardamili, not far from the coast. In addition to the church, the small town has a local museum about the Mani peninsula. The architecture of the Agios Spiridon church and the whole of Mani were influenced by the "Nikliani" family. This family ruled all of the Mani peninsula. The habitants of Mani could not be suppressed by any occupying power. This character seal is also in the architecture the whole mani - half island again. Residential towers and defense towers wherever you look, all made of natural stone, from surrounding stones. This special architecture has prevailed to this day, and many small hotel complexes are typically maniotic. What is typical of Mani-Peninsula are the chants of the dead, whose traces go back to ancient times. This is where the organization and uprising against the Ottoman Empire began. Even Homer mentions Kardamili in his book 9. It was one of the seven places Agamemnon Achilles offered to enter the Trojan War.
