In the South – Hotel Souda Bay in Plakias
This small, family-run apartment hotel is perched on a gentle hillside, offering panoramic views over the Bay of Plakias. In the immediate vicinity, you’ll find two charming tavernas within walking distance. The Souda Bay accommodation is situated between the coastal villages of Plakias and Souda, both featuring sandy beaches with sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent. Just below the hotel lies a quiet little beach with sand and pebbles – a peaceful spot for a refreshing swim. A long, shallow sandy beach begins only 100 meters away, and Souda’s main sandy beach with water sports is just 700 meters from the hotel. Souda beach tends to be quieter and more relaxed than the busier Plakias beach, making this an ideal retreat for independent travelers seeking tranquility without being far from local restaurants and activities. The Souda Bay Apartment Hotel is a perfect base to explore southern Crete’s authentic charm. The center of Plakias is only about 1.5 km away.

In the West – Traditional Guesthouse Aptera Located in the Aptera region near Souda/Kalives, east of the beautiful harbor city of Chania, this guesthouse sits in the scenic hills above Kalives, offering a peaceful, rural atmosphere with stunning views of the Akrotiri Peninsula and the sea. Despite its tranquil setting, the next sandy beach is only a 10-minute drive away. The Traditional Guesthouse Apokoronas features 15 units, including studios and apartments. Within 500 meters, you’ll find a small grocery store and three cozy, traditional tavernas. The charming coastal village of Kalives is just a 7-minute drive, offering sandy beaches, beachfront tavernas, and shops. And within only 15 minutes, you can reach the historic center of Chania – considered Crete’s most beautiful harbor town.

Traditional Guesthouse Aptera
A charming apartment hotel built in traditional Cretan style, the Guesthouse Aptera is a small, idyllic complex with 12 studios and 9 apartments. Set within a peaceful garden, it offers a swimming pool with sun loungers and umbrellas, free for guest use. The reception and on-site taverna are open during limited hours. For late arrivals, we coordinate check-in times individually with the owners to ensure a smooth welcome. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.

Souda Bay Apartment Hotel – Southern Crete
This cozy and welcoming apartment hotel in the south consists of 7 apartments and 5 studios, all with sea views. The hotel terrace, where breakfast is served, invites you to relax with a swimming pool, sunbeds, and umbrellas available to all guests. A small pool bar is open during selected hours.Wi-Fi is included and available throughout the complex.
Rooms
At Souda Bay Hotel:
You will stay in a Superior Studio or Apartment with sea view and balcony. These accommodations are located on the upper floor (adults only) and feature a small kitchenette for preparing light meals. The bathrooms are modern, and each unit includes free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, and air conditioning available for an additional charge of €5 per day.

At Traditional Guesthouse Aptera:
Stay in a studio or apartment with sea view. Traditional Guesthouse Aptera offers 15 holiday units varying in size and amenities. Studios accommodate 1 to 3 people and include a living/sleeping area with a kitchenette for light meal preparation, a refrigerator, coffee maker, satellite TV, shower, WC, and either a balcony or terrace. Apartments accommodate 2 to 4 people and feature a separate bedroom, plus a daybed in the living/kitchen area suitable for a 3rd or 4th guest. All studios and apartments come with a TV and air conditioning included in the price. Each unit offers side sea views and comfortable living spaces designed for your relaxation.
Board
At both accommodations, you can look forward to a generous breakfast, featuring some homemade products, including jams and eggs from the family’s own farm.

On the west coast of Crete, near the Traditional Guesthouse Aptera, you’ll find three beautiful coastal bays – Kalives, Almyrida, and Plaka – just a 10-minute drive away. Each offers stunning beaches and a range of water sports activities provided by local operators – perfect for those looking to combine relaxation with a bit of adventure by the sea.
On the south coast in Plakias, you’ll also find local providers offering a variety of water sports, perfect for adding some action to your beach days.
